Hello Friends! In my last post I told you that both boys have joined scouting, what I didn’t tell you is that I have wanted them to join scouting for years! Jalen was just not interested in joining. The real reason I wanted them to join was to offer them opportunities to learn things I just am not equipped to teach them. Wilderness survival skills are not my forte, unless you count watching Survivorman through squinted eyes. This past winter, the scouts came to our church as they have to our old church in years past but this year, both boys had friends who were present. I approached the leader and found out the meeting times and talked to both boys about giving scouting a try. Jalen joined a few friends of his in the boy scout troop and Jordan joined a friend in the cub scout pack. Both boys wanted to join and we went down to the scout shop and picked up books and uniforms. Here are some pictures from some of our scouting adventures!
The Biscuits Camporee
We didn’t camp out but we did go down to riverwalk stadium to watch the Montgomery Biscuits play ball. We got to walk out on the field and just had an all around great time! Jordan got to play on the inflatables too :)
Rain Gutter Regatta
The boys got to put together and decorate catamarans to race in the Rain Gutter Regatta. It was a lot of fun, Jordan did pretty well. :)
Father/Son Cake decorating contest
Troy and Jordan baked and decorated a cake to take to the Blue and Gold banquet for the contest. They didn’t win but it was delicious and looked professional ;)
Jordan Dam Tour
The cub scouts got to take a tour of Jordan dam, near our home on Lake Jordan. It was a beautiful time and quite interesting!
Camp Tukabatchee – Boy Scout Camp
Jalen went camping with his Troop, it was their largest group at camp. He learned a lot and said he had a great time.
Camp Hobbs – Webelo Resident Camp
Troy, Jordan and I joined our fellow bears at Webelo Camp. It is next door to the boy scout camp. We stayed in cabins that are not air conditioned. the week before us and the week after us were not nearly as hot as our week. It was dusty and dirty and hot but it was a great time. Jordan joined in with the boys and played. New things for both Jordan and I at camp: Shooting BB guns, archery, learning to build a fire, learning to tie knots, learning about the alabama forest, learning about poison ivy (eeps!), swimming in a lake (i did not), rowing a boat, raising the flag, and we even got to hike over to Jalen’s camp on Friday.
It has been quite an adventure so far and I’m glad we’ve joined in!
Thanks for stopping by!
Love Love and Blog you sooner than later,
